Company Profile
Georgia Forestry Commission
Company Overview
The Georgia Forestry Commission (GFC) was created in 1949 by the Georgia Legislature. Our mission is to provide leadership, service and education to protect and conserve Georgia’s forest resources. GFC works to promote, protect and conserve healthy, sustainable forests which are a vital part of holistic, long-term sustainability. They contribute to clean air and clean water and help provide natural products for future generations.
Our agency has several departments to serve the more than 25 million acres of forestland and their landowners. This includes Forest Protection (wildland fire control, aviation, response centers, fabrication shop), Forest Management (field foresters, forest health, water quality, urban forestry), Stewardship, Marketing and Utilization, and Reforestation. We have more than 600 seasonal and full time employees, an annual operating budget of more than $50 million, and approximately 120 offices across the state.
Benefits
We offer our entry level wildland firefighters and foresters an established program for both on the job training and cross training. Additionally, there are numerous developmental opportunities, including within the Incident Command System (ICS). The ICS enables employees to serve on out of state assignments such as fire, hurricane, and other disaster relief efforts.
