Description
The Naushon Trust seeks a professional land manager to manage the transitions in our forest caused by beech leaf disease and related stressors as well as to manage our grasslands. The land manager will oversee the development of a management plan and work with family members, external advisors, and staff to implement measures to support forest regeneration, invasive species management, and grassland restoration and management. The position combines analysis, planning, and development of silvicultural practices and the hands-on implementation of clearing, cutting, mowing, and planting. Requirements
Proven experience in applied forest and grasslands management; experience managing conservation lands, parks, or other facilities; and comfort overseeing contractors, volunteers, interns, and external researchers.
Proficiency operating tractors, mowers, chainsaws, grappler/shears, skid steers, and related equipment.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Forestry, Environmental Science, or a related field.
Strong understanding of and experience applying conservation principles and ecological restoration techniques to landscapes undergoing ecosystem change.
Proficiency in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and ability to oversee development of mapping and data tools to support applied land management.
Excellent analytical and communication skills and leadership potential.
